The Preferred Flex Card is an exciting option for managing your Health FSA. Benefits include:

 

  • Instant access to the pre-tax funds in your Preferred Health FSA, eliminating the need to pay out of pocket and then be reimbursed.
  • The card is part of the MasterCard® network and for qualified expenses is as simple to use as any credit card.
  • The card is accepted at most doctor offices and merchants that accept MasterCard®.

Now More Convenient

 

New IRS rules have made it even more convenient to use your Preferred Flex Card. That's because merchants who accept these cards must comply with new guidelines that require them to implement an Inventory Information Approval System (IIAS). This system identifies your purchase as an eligible health expense when you pay for it, and in most cases eliminates paperwork to verify your purchase as an eligible expense. Your purchase will automatically be authorized! (Since the IRS requires that only eligible, health-related items be purchased with the card, you should still continue to save all your receipts.)

This means, however, if a merchant does not have the IIAS in place you cannot use your Preferred Flex Card at that location to pay for eligible medical expenses. In most cases, your transaction will be declined.
